Kinja'd!!!

FCA’s big dealer only show is going on in Vegas. Here is what I’m hearing from my pals there. All phones are confiscated so they have to remember what they can and report when they have a break.

Everyone is CRAZY EXCITED about what they were shown. So here we go:

Trackhawk Grand Cherokee was there. Sounded insane. 0-60 in 2.7 seconds, 700hp, starting at $79,999.

New Jeep Grand Wagoneer - competing with the likes of Land Rover, etc. Likely high end SUV, so great.

New Chrysler full size SUV, looked awesome. Durango size-ish, great design..can’t wait. Even had stow-and-go

Dart R/T and Dart GLH - and the turbo engine (no details) will be available in all trim levels. Best part? Dart GLH starts below $20k. 1.8 turbo hurricane engine On darts.

New Jeep Compass looks good.

New Dodge ram pics were neat, some of the new packages are nice too. The NEW Power Wagon.. holy ****... awesome looking and was on 37’s. 37’s won’t be on the production version, but it’ll have 35’s. Looks like the Ram Rebel on steroids.

Even the mini-van looked so much less mini-van ish but still very well designed.

The Dodge ‘Cuda looked good, they had one made in a convertible. Not sure that one will see production, but lighter and smaller than Challenger. (7/8 scale)

New Challenger ADR (American Drag Racer) release was crazy with 315’s on all 4 corners. Rumors of 1000hp?? The unveiling had it coming out of a cage. Ha!

Challenger T/A was a sweet road course car.. upgraded suspension, no rear seat... blacked out top graphics...

Charger Daytona with a 340 Hemi???

They have an SRT Durango in B5 Blue!!

One of the biggest surprises was the NEW CHARGER. Looks like the 99 concept... but so much better. I can’t wait until that hits.

Other notables were the 4500 promaster concept, some Alpha Romeos, which were impressive and Fiats like the 124 Spider and an SUV. Maseratti has some hot cars too.

Biggest surprise at the end though was seeing the new 2017 Wrangler. Not a big departure from the JK, but I’d say it shares nothing with the JK.

*I apologize for any errors above, I’m literally copying and pasting the info I’m getting*

As a big Italian fan, looking forward to the new FIAT and Alfa stuff! Also really like the Dart, so interested to see those new models as well! :) The the new Charger looking like the 1999 concept, that will be pretty neat! Looking forward to that as well! :D

I’m excited about the Alfa, and did they display the SRT Dart or Alfa Miata thing? I’ve been waiting AWD manual goodness lately...I'm genuinely excited about the new charger. It's been prime time to get away from the Benz sourced roots and make some thing from themselves.

From what I hear....there is no and won’t be an SRT Dart. Which is sad. Curious what the GLH Dart is, though. GLH was the old “Goes like Hell” Omni/Daytona in the 80’s. But you’re not getting SIGNIFICANT performance out of a car that’s under $20K anymore.

Heard a separate rumor about a Trackhawk Renegade (AWD Turbo) to go with the JGC Trackhawk, but I would have thought that would be shown at this show and there was no sign of it. So....not sure.

From what I was told, this didn’t look like a production car....but the rumor has been that the Challenger was going to be replaced by a smaller, Mustang sized car. So it may be the case.

First the good:

SRT Durango

T/A Challenger, makes sense to take on GT350s and Z/28s

Grand Wagoneer

Power Wagon

50/50:

Dart GLH, I want this to be true

Cuda

Trackhawk (see below)

NOPE:

I doubt the “new” Charger part considering they facelifted it for this year.

0-60 in 2.7 for a Grand Cherokee is extremely optimistic at best.

Challenger ADR , a drag car wouldn’t want 315’s all around.

Chrysler SUV, the Aspen was such a failure I doubt they’d do it again. Especially with a Grand Wagoneer as direct competition.

Where would a new Compass fit in the lineup?

New = new platform this round, and all these are 12-24 mos from being on lots, all greenlit and everything.

The aspen was a failure because it was literally a durango with a dif. grille, i think they learned their lesson this time.

The compass will likely be the “grand-cherokee” styling side of the equasion. jeep seems to be doing this half-like-wrangler, half-like-grandCherokee.

“GLH” supposedly is a 300hp engine, and will be available across the line with either fwd or awd. Transmission(s) are undisclosed.

The Challenger “ADR” is basically a street-legal machine, so it’d need more than 2” wide tires up front. The grand cherokee is a Hellcat, and with the right tuning, and gear ratio, it wouldn’t surprise me if it could get going that quick, but it is likely a more focused vehicle, a step above the standard SRT, maybe with some weight savings and stuff done.. -shrug-

How much power does the GTR have 545 to 600; weighs 3,813 to 3,922 lbs? I dont see it as implausible as you guys think. 700+hp and 4,545 to 5,150 lbs... well, awd does have that acceleration advantage, even if it is a heavier vehicle.. I suppose we’ll find out when we find out. Likely with drag radials, and weight reduction options that i’m sure will be part of it.

The one common thread I’ve seen in all leaked Trackhawk rumors is <3 0-60. So when I heard 2.7 this time...I’m starting to believe it.

Pre Hellcat at 707hp, I would have laughed at it, but I’m not doubting anything FCA claims in terms of speed.

Wouldn’t be surprised if it was 2.7 0-60 *on drag radials* (like they did with the Hellcats). I have a 2014 JCG SRT and with an intake and tune, I can chirp the tires using launch control.

New Challenger ADR (American Drag Racer) release was crazy with 315’s on all 4 corners. Rumors of 1000hp?? The unveiling had it coming out of a cage. Ha!

Why would a drag race package come with 315s on all 4 corners? I’d think that would be better on the T/A

Charger Daytona with a 340 Hemi???

They’ve always had a 345 Hemi (5.7), so I’d assume that.

Looking forward to the new Wagoneer, glad to see Chrysler is getting another model. Don’t bring back the ‘Cuda, call it something else. I hope, but am not optimistic, that Ram keeps the crosshairs.

I said the exact same thing. Why the hell would it have 315’s on all four corners? I figured they’d do that to the T/A like the 305’s on the Z/28.

Apparently it had crazy flared fenders on all 4 corners. I was assured he meant the ARD, not the T/A. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Though a 1000hp Challenger with 315 drag radials on all 4 could destroy anything on a road course and drag strip.

—- It’s not about it being a “Chrysler SUV” that caused the failure of the Aspen. Along those olines you would have to explain why the Durango for that era was also a failure comapared to the current one. Completely different vehicle. Apples and oranges.

Where would a new Compass fit in the lineup?

—- I’ll agree with this one. I also need to see for myself because I just don’t see how they could just do another one that’s really about the same size as the Renegade.

The ADR sounds like a SEMA car. My point about the Chrysler SUV is that the Grand Cherokee half of Jeep (I agree with you on that) has gone upmarket enough that I don’t see the need for a Chrysler, especially if the Wagoneer gets built. The compass seems a bit odd still considering how well both the Renegade and Cherokee are doing. As a 2018-19 model year (I went and read Allpar) I could understand a new Charger, since the LX platform is getting towards the end of it’s lifespan. I’d be happy if they moved away from the retro styling a bit too. I certainly didn’t mean to be combative, I just tire of speculation.

I’m thinking the ADR is a SEMA car. As for the Chrysler SUV, it’s more to do with internal competition with Jeep moving upmarket. The Aspen part was more that I think they’re probably a bit gun-shy after a previous failure, and haven’t had issues selling the GC as a Luxury SUV.

My main point in a lot of this was, it sounds like an awful lot of new products that aren’t different enough to differentiate themselves from each other on the market. Lots of internal competition from what’s only 3 brands (the C in FCA).

Kinja'd!!! Autojunkie > Bman76 (no it doesn't need a WS6 hood) M. Arch
08/26/2015 at 14:21

Kinja'd!!!0

Chrysler is not a luxury brand though. They fit right in between Chevrolet and Buick as their direct competition. Think of the Chrysler SUV as a FWD-based to compete with the Traverse and Enclave. The “SUV” for those that really want a FWD station wagon, but don’t know it.

The actuality is that there is and will be far fewer competion between brands. This is the advantage of having all brands housed under one dealership so there is no need to make products to compete among each of the brands. GM, Ford and Chrysler all had brands that competed within themselves back in the 80s and 90s. Ford and FCA not so much anymore and even less in the near future. They all fill a specific niche with almost no overlap. GM on the other hand...

One of the biggest surprises was the NEW CHARGER. Looks like the 99 concept... but so much better. I can’t wait until that hits.

Since the Charger is Dodge’s only mid/full size sedan, I’m curious what this is going to mean. Are they killing the Dodge sedan entirely in favor of the 300? Or are they making a four door car with swooping lines? Or something else I haven’t thought of?

If it ends up as a swoopy-lined four door with a V8 and manual transmission as options, I’ll preorder one. And I’ve never owned something from this side of the pacific.

Not that I put poorly thought-out business decisions past what an automaker would do, but this writeup also mentions the Challenger ADR and T/A being shown at the event.

If the Cuda is 7/8s the size of the current Challenger, that means they will have finally gotten it right. Saw a current Challenger parked next to a ‘70 Challenger and christ the current one is a whale. I’m surprised Dodge has sold as many of those tubby Challengers as they have.

Which means the 7/8s size Cuda will be juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust right.

I love how the post face-lift Charger looks, but that’s the most attractive four-door car I’ve seen in forever.

More like since 2010/2011. If they’re just now unveiling the first concept I’d suspect this would be a 2017/2018 model year which fits their 5 year plan they gave out almost a year or so ago now.

I just dont see the point of offering two very similar vehicles unless they make the Challenge less muscle car and more cruiser (think almost 90s Tbird)

Dodge was supposed to be reinventing themselves and become performace oriented, no more minivans or SUVs. And offering 2 very similar sport muscle coupes wouldnt be the smartest.

But im just going off what I read elsewhere on the Internet a while ago

Yeah, it’s way bigger, but a lot of it is safety tech, and it may be a little plus size beyond that, but look at a new Mustang compared to the original, or the Camaro, or even the Porsche 911. These cars are all substantially larger than their predecessors.

But you know what I like about the Challenger? It retains most of the old-school feel of the original. It feels like a more refined, but still raw early 70s large-displacement muscle/pony car. And Dodge is unapologetic about it, I’m sure. And big or not, Dodge is on fire lately. They’ve been my favorite make for well over 10 years, and they’re just cementing it more and more all the time.

As far as the ‘Cuda, I think it will slot below the Chally, IMHO. It’s apparently got a convertible variant to start. Also, I’m hoping they can use some of Mazda’s Miata underpinnings that their using for Alfa, to use for this as well. A smaller, RWD, manual equipped sports coupe and convertible could do quite well for Dodge.

I was thinking about that too, but didn’t have a good answer. I think yours is a reasonable one, but then you’ve still got the rebranding issue because the Challenger has already built a reputation as a muscle car. On the other hand, you could make a ‘Cuda which is bigger than the Challenger and that could be the cruiser. I’m just speculating at this point though.

“The Dodge ‘Cuda looked good, they had one made in a convertible. Not sure that one will see production, but lighter and smaller than Challenger. (7/8 scale) “ Plymouth badge swaps should be a factory option.

It’s because almost nobody races them. They drive them in the standard mundane ways where their weight is a non issue

I’ll wait until I see it. That much new product there is no way they got it all right. Big SUVs will be tough long term. Tahoes are the preferred vehicle. Minivans are declining and the market is owned by Toyota and Honda. If that is the charger not impressed. The wrangler better not be messed up or moved out of Toledo.

Those are my initial thoughts.

Wasn’t the new Chally an 11/10 scale of the original? So this is getting it back down to a more reasonable pony car size?

Why would offering two different performance coupes be “not the smartest thing” for a brand trying to be a performance brand? I’d think the more performance models the better.

They sell because they’re BY FAR the most comfortable modern muscle cars. Challengers are GT cars. Have usable back seats.

Best looking too, but I suppose that’s subjective.

I’m told the ADR is not being built as a SEMA car or Concept car. It’s target is low production, and street legal (not like a drag pack).

It and the T/A’s new suspension and styling cues will then trickle down to the rest of the Challengers.

NO clue how they plan on pulling that off, but I want to see it. HA!

I’ll I gotta say is that Dart GLH better be insane. Otherwise it won’t have the desired effect at all for FCA. They should support as much aftermarket tuning as possible, give it a wing and scoops and preferably box flares. If they just barely warm it over, everyone who got excited by the return of that nameplate will be dissapointed and yet another name plate will be ruined.

The compass will likely be the “grand-cherokee” styling side of the equasion. jeep seems to be doing this half-like-wrangler, half-like-grandCherokee.

So would you say that the new Compass will be a blend of the current Compass and Patriot, style-wise? any idea what size the new Compass will be in relation to the current one?

I know nobody else really cares about the Compass, but the old MK platform is still selling like hotcakes... they better have something good that can replace it, since the Renegade and Cherokee can’t quite hit the price point of the old MK twins.

EDIT : sorry, directed to the wrong person... unless you happen to know.

I’d love to see the ADR, and I think the T/A makes complete sense and should see production.

Also, I made a poll/survey to gauge Oppo’s opinions on the news, it’s been entertaining.
